Black tie

Made for my dear girl friend Carmen, she celebrated her birthday last night.

This bow mold was used only once, for my birthday cake in 2011. I wanted to make another cake with it and thought a black and white cake would be nice, as Carmen got a brighter cake last year
Vintage romance). I combined it with a simple white pearl necklace and two tiny antique silver bows.

It's a chocolare cake, filled with praline buttercream and dark chocolate fudge.

Have a great Sunday!

Blanc et noir

A few weeks ago I was asked to make a birthday cake for a lovely lady. I had the complete free hand.

I really wanted to work with SugarVeil again and thought, black and white would be pretty to combine with SV.
With the weather is was hard to work with the SV, but with great help from Michele Hester, it turned out pretty good. Thanks for that Michele!

This is my second cake with SugarVeil and it has been a while, since my last cameo cake. But I still adore cameos..

I do love making a cake in black and white, once and a while.
At the end of august I'm making a two layered wedding cake, also in black and white.

The cake turned out to be a simple, elegant en chique cake.

Have a great sunday evening!

50 in black and white

A dear colleague of mine, John, turned the big 50 today and he's celebrating tonight. So he deserves a cake all for himself.. And I think he will be very happy with this, he's often asking for cupcakes on school.

Making a cake for a guy, I always find it a bit difficult.. But what could go wrong with black, white and stripes with a tiny bow ~present cake~ ?

Have a great weekend!

Cake Chic

My sister turned 25 last Wednesday and celebrates tonight. This is the third time already I'm making a cake for her birthday. The first time, was also my first cake ever..

This year she wanted something else than a cake in sweet pastel colours.
For my own birthday I wanted to use beige and white with black, but as I decided to do a high tea, I made a cake in pastel colours.

Manon liked the combination of beige with white and black and a detail in antique gold. From then on, I could think about a pretty design.

I recently bought a SugarVeil lace mat and this was the perfect moment to use it on the cake. It wasn't easy and it took me several times untill it came out right, but doesn't it look gorgeous on the beige?!

The letter was also made with SugarVeil, this workes perfect. I printed the letter in a pretty font and piped it with the SugarVeil on a baking sheet.

What do you think of it? Do you prefer pastel or more neutral colours combined?

I though you might like to see the other two cakes I've made for my sister.
The first one didn't look like the cakes I make now.. I still had to find my own thing, my own style. These two were made in in May 2010.

The second cake I've made for her was, as many, inspired by Marie Antoinette.. This one was made last year.

Have a great weekend!

Table runner in French style

A while ago I bought this table runner and matching placemats.
I just love the white cotton combined with the lace on the sides.

I also discovered the site of the Graphics Fairy and was looking forward to use one of her gorgeous French graphics. At Highschool I wasn't good in French, but I always loved the sound of the language, the writing, Paris, Chanel, the "old time" feeling I get...

The table runner was perfect for this transfering job.
So I bought transfer sheets and searched for a pretty, french graphic to decorate the runner.
First, I printed the graphic in reverse, then I cut it out and at last, I ironed it on the runner. Done :)

This is the result and I'm very pleased with it.

After the runner, I also decorated a placemat (one of the..).

Happy New Year

I thought my Christmas cake would be the last one of 2011, but at the party where I'm going tonight, everybody is bringing something and they asked me to bring a dessert.
A good reason for a cake :)

I found it hard to design something, as I find it a difficult theme.
But black, white and silver are festive and work quite good in this theme, don't you think?
Of course there had to be sparkles and I loved the idea of a sparkly 2012 on top.

Have a wonderful NYE and hopefully I can count you to my readers in 2012 as well!

Love,

Nadine

Update..

Hello my dear followers!

It's has been a while since my last post. I hope you guys didn't forget me...
For now I hope you are happy with this short update.

As you know I moved out and my new home is almost ready. Soon I will post some pictures!
It's becoming a cosy, white shabby chic home and I love it :)

The past few weeks I also made a small cake and cupcakes for two weddings, but I haven't found the time posting them. I will show you the pictures here and I will make the topic later.

How about this...

Jorinde from "The perfect wedding - Je must read trouwblog" made a topic about Tessa and me. She wrote such nice things about our cakes and cupcakes and I'm sooo happy with the result!
I immediately wanted to share it with my readers.

Here you can read (it's in Dutch..) her topic:

Eric's 50th Birthday

Today my neighbour Eric turned 50 and his wife wanted to give him a cake.

As I haven't made many cakes for men, this was also yet again a challenge. I decided to go for white, grey and black. Quite the manly colours right? Manly or female, it does make a nice combination!

Stripes are always good, I made the base white, used sugarpearls finishing the stripes and used a ribbon arround the bottom of the cake to turn this cake in a simple, but chique cake.

I'm pretty pleased with this one, hopefully Eric does too!

Congrats Eric!

*********************************************************************************

Vandaag is mijn buurman Eric 50 geworden.

Diamond Baroque

Again, a three tired cake :)

Made for a couple that celebrates their 60th/diamond aniversay today.
Her daughter asked me to make the cake in black&white and baroque style, because the location is a old castle. She saw a previous black&white cake and liked it very much.

The lace is real and for the first time I used a mold to make the pearldrapings. Before, I put on suugarpearls, one at a time... Using the mold is so much quicker, thinking why I haven't done that untill today..

Have a nice weekend!
