Merry Christmas Cake

This year's Christmas cake... 

Last year I used the traditional Christmas colors; red, green and white. 

This year I wanted to make a vintage, light colored cake. 
Grey and white look so lovely and calm together and with some glitters, pearls and lace added, it makes a perfect combination for Christmas.

Black tie

Made for my dear girl friend Carmen, she celebrated her birthday last night. 

This bow mold was used only once, for my birthday cake in 2011. I wanted to make another cake with it and thought a black and white cake would be nice, as Carmen got a brighter cake last year
Vintage romance). I combined it with a simple white pearl necklace and two tiny antique silver bows. 

It's a chocolare cake, filled with praline buttercream and dark chocolate fudge.

My first pillowframe..

I saw pillowframes for the first time at 24Homes and they looked so cute and easy to make. 

Finally I've made my own pillowframe holding a picture from Paris, which I visited with a dear friend in august.

I used a beige colored fabric and some Paris stamps as it would be used for my Paris pictures. I used leftovers from my curtains for the large piece of lace. The ribbon was bought at Het witte luik,  the pearl pins as well.

This absolutely will not be the last pillowframe I've made. Can't wait to make a second one..

Blanc et noir

A few weeks ago I was asked to make a birthday cake for a lovely lady. I had the complete free hand. 

I really wanted to work with SugarVeil again and thought, black and white would be pretty to combine with SV. 

With the weather is was hard to work with the SV, but with great help from Michele Hester, it turned out pretty good. Thanks for that Michele!

This is my second cake with SugarVeil and it has been a while, since my last cameo cake. But I still adore cameos.. 

I do love making a cake in black and white, once and a while. 

At the end of august I'm making a two layered wedding cake, also in black and white. 

The cake turned out to be a simple, elegant en chique cake.

50 in black and white

A dear colleague of mine, John, turned the big 50 today and he's celebrating tonight. So he deserves a cake all for himself.. And I think he will be very happy with this, he's often asking for cupcakes on school. 

Making a cake for a guy, I always find it a bit difficult.. But what could go wrong with black, white and stripes with a tiny bow ~present cake~ ?

Ivoire et blanc

A few moths ago Tim and Marijke asked me to make their wedding cake and I was delighted. Today is their wedding day. 

Tim, a former colleaque, told me ones; if I'll ever get married, I want you to make the cake. And so I did.. 

The bride to be loved a lot of my cakes and pointed uit some favorites. I made a design and with a few adjustments, their wedding cake was ready to be made.

The cake is in traditional colors, with a hint of gold and pastel pink. On top a pastel pink gerber, as the brides bouquet has pink gerbers. 

The top cake is carrot cake with a vanilla  cream, the middle one is vanilla cake with fresh, home made strawberry jam and the bottom cake is chocolate with praline cream.

The couple picked up the cake last night and were very happy with it. And  that's still the most important and beautiful thing about cake making..

A Party for baby boy Liam

One of my dearest friends became mother of baby Liam. 

She and her husband are having a party today for family and friends to celebrate the birth of their son. 

As a present I've made a tiny layered cake (4" & 3"). 
I was looking forward to do a cake in pastel blue again and stripes are one of my favorites for a baby boy cake. 

Instead of the usual stripes on the bottom cake, I've put them on the top cake this time. And a big bow at the bottom. 

The letter is made with SugarVeil and colored with blue dust before I've decorated it with blue glitters.

Pale blue and white for a princess

My dear friend Anouk celebrated her daughters 3th birthday today and asked me to make the birthday cake for Anne. Ofcourse I would for my little girl friend.

Anne isn't a girly girl and didn't want pink on her cake, but blue. Dark blue and dots. So, I made a design with pale blue and white.

Although with blue, Anne does wanted a princess cake. I made a bow and glittered the letters to get a princess feeling.

I used the regular sizes stripes a lot, so I wanted to use the small ones again. I also think they look better in this design.

The bow was a first timer. Usually I use the bow cutters from JEM, but I wanted to make a pretty, puffy bow. With a little help from a video on YouTube I managed to make one. 

The perfectionist in me had to go, but I still started over, on and on until the bow looked pretty to me. 

Anne was very happy with the cake, it was hard for her to only look at the cake and don't take a piece of it with her hands :) 
The quests loved the cake and that is the most important thing for me, making people smile.. 

My favorite things combined...

My second cake, made in 2012. I've made it for my girl friend Anouk. We celebrated her birthday today, with eating cake and shopping in Liège.. What do girls need more?? 
For this birthday present, I combined my favorite decorations; lace, bows and pearls with rose gold and peach... 
It's a carrot cake filled with vanilla cream. 
She was very happy with it and also loved the taste. So, I'm happy also :)

Birthday High Tea

Last Thursday (the 8th of March) another year was over..
I turned 27.

This time I wanted something to do else than a party in the evening. Ever since I moved in, I wanted to do a High Tea. This was the perfect occasion and I loved planning, baking and decorating the table! I also had help from my mom, who made the wraps and sandwiches with me.

My dearest girl friends were invited and we had so much fun..

It was a perfect birthday party! Here are some pictures of the "sweet high tea table".

Christmas 2011

It's my first Christmas in my home and my family is coming tonight for Christmas dinner.
Of course a Christmas cake had to be made..

Golden Wedding

This is hopefully the last cake in this warm wether.... It's been to long, to warm..

As it is my last bigger cake for the next weekes, I can take the time painting my new home :)

My friend asked me to make a cake for her friends, that celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Half a century together... isn't that amazing?!

As it is a golden wedding anniversary, I thought it would be pretty to make them another
"wedding cake" in white and ivory with golden details. The ribbons match perfectly with the fondant :D It's a first that I've used the higher baking tin for the 15cm/6" cake.
Making the 50 with royaling icing would be prettier, but I still haven't taken the course...
I would love to take the PME Royal Icing Course... Untill then, I'm happy with my number cutters. And also with the result!

Hopelijk was dit de laatste taart die ik bij dit weer moest maken... Het is al te lang, te warm....  Aangezien dit mijn laatste grotere taart voor de komende weken is, kan ik nu alle tijd besteden aan het klussen en verven in mijn huisje :)

Een vriendin vroeg mij een taartje te maken voor een bevriend stel dat vandaag hun 50ste huwelijksjaar viert. Een halve eeuw samen... is dat niet geweldig?!

Het is een gouden huwelijk, dus mij leek het mooi een tweede "huwelijkstaart" te maken in wit, ivoor en details in goud. Vind het ook zo mooi dat het lint perfect bij de kleur fondant past. Heb nu ook voor het eerst het hogere bakblik voor de 15cm taart gebruikt.
De 50 had ik met royal icing sierlijker kunnen maken, maar ik heb de cursus nog niet gedaan... Wil ontzettend graag de PME Royal Icing gaan doen. Tot dan, ben ik blij met mijn letter- en cijferuitstekers. En met het eindresultaat!

Victorian wedding cupcakes with a vintage twist

Yesterday was a BIG BIG day, my friend Eva got married! And I had the honor to be her witness. The day started out with some clouds, we had some rain but not at the important times.

Eva was a georgous bride! I was there the whole time as the pictures were taken in the gardens of the location. It was so much fun, I even had the chance to be de photographer's assistent. My job was to make sure the train of the dress layed perfect and her hair was out of her eyes.

Can't wait to see the pictures...

Months ago she asked me to make 80 wedding cupcakes as dessert, she liked the combination of white, ivory and peach with gold details.

The cupcakes were a succes and Eva loved them.

It was such a beautiful day, I wish you guys all the luck and hapiness! XO 

Gisteren was de GROTE dag, mijn vriendin Eva ging trouwen! En ik had de eer om haar getuige te zijn. De dag begon met wolken en we hadden wat regen, maar gelukkig niet tijdens de momenten dat we buiten waren.

Eva was een prachtige bruid! Ik mocht er bij zijn toen de foto's van het bruidspaar gemaakt werden in de tuinen van Mondo Verde. Wat was dat leuk zeg! Ik mocht zelfs de fotograaf "assisteren", mijn taak was ervoor te zorgen dat sleep mooi lag en Eva's haren niet voor haar ogen hingen. Ben heel benieuwd naar de foto's!

Maanden geleden vroeg Eva mij of ik 80 cupcakes wilde maken, die na het eten geserveerd zouden worden. Ze vond de combinatie van wit, ivoor en perzik met gouden details erg leuk. De cupcakes waren gelukkig een succes en Eva was er erg blij mee.

Het was een geweldige dag en ik wens jullie alle geluk toe!! X

It's a Girl!

My friend Thera and her husband are expecting a baby girl. Last night was the surprise babyshower her husband organised, he asked me to make some cupcakes.

Since it will be a girl and I love pink, the cupcakes had to be in pink..  The combination of pink, off-white and gold is one of my favorites.. I didn't use any baby-decoration, but the ruffles and little necklace do refer to the baby and it's the mothers party tonight :) 

Here they are. She was very surprised and loved them, mission completed!

Mijn vriendin Thera en haar man zijn in verwachting van een meisje. Gisteren was de babyshower, die haar man als verrassing had georganiseerd. Hij had mij gevraagd cupcakes te maken en aangezien het een meisje wordt en ik van roze houd, moesten de cupcakes wel roze worden... De combinatie van roze, ivoorwit en goud is een van mijn favorieten. Ik heb geen baby-decoratie gebruikt, maar de ruches en kleine parelketting verwijzen er wel naar en het is tenslotte een feestje voor mama :)

Hier zijn ze dan. Thera was erg verrast en vond ze geweldig, dus missie volbracht!

Romance à la Marie Antoinette

My new favorite :D

Made for my sisters birthday who turned 24 today. It's also my anniversary cake, exactly one year ago I've made my first two cakes for my sister :) Times flies....

This year she wanted the colour peach in her cake and I just love the combination peach, ivory and gold. I did a lot of new stuff on this cake. The rose has been made with a super duper petal mold and is my new favorite, the flower cameo was bought last week and I just needed to use it :) and I have done some stripes on cakes befor, but never these thin ones.

The bottom cake is made of Victoria sponge, probably will be used a lot after this....
The other cakes are made of biscuit, all filled with a vanilla buttercream (with real vanilla seeds for the first time) and cherry & strawberry marmelade.

Diamond Baroque

Again, a three tired cake :)

Made for a couple that celebrates their 60th/diamond aniversay today.
Her daughter asked me to make the cake in black&white and baroque style, because the location is a old castle. She saw a previous black&white cake and liked it very much.  

The lace is real and for the first time I used a mold to make the pearldrapings. Before, I put on suugarpearls, one at a time... Using the mold is so much quicker, thinking why I haven't done that untill today..

Birdcage on a necklace

My friend Tessa showed me this stencil (in combination with two lovebirds) and I just needed to have it.. It reminded me of my own vintage birdcages, one in white that I've painted gold and a big one in blue.

A dear friend celebrated her birthday with a high tea, and as always I wanted to make something special and decided to make a vintage-style cake with the birdcage on a pearl necklace with gold tiny bows.

It was my first attempt stencilling something on a cake and it didn't quite go as I wanted it.. I've painted the gold-dust on mixed with alcohol and although I was very carefull, the gold didn't just stay on the spots I wanted it to stay.. In the end, the cake looked very cute to me, I just love love the bow necklace in combination with the cage..... If there would be a real pearlnecklace like this, it would be mine! ;)
Next week another friend will get a cake, and guess what.. There will be a pearl necklace on it too...

In Dutch:

Mijn lieve vriendinnetje Tessa liet mij deze stencil zien (in combinatie met twee tortelduifjes op een stok) en ik was meteen verkocht! Het vogelkooitje herinnerde mij aan twee kooitjes die ik heb, een goudkleurige die ik wit gespoten heb en een grotere blauwe.

Mijn vriendin Anouk vierde haar verjaardag met een high tea. Zoals altijd wilde ik iets speciaals maken en besloot een vintage-style cake te maken met het vogelkooitje aan een parelketting met mini-strikjes in goud.
Het was mijn eerste poging met stencils en het ging niet helemaal zoals ik in gedachten had. Het kooitje is met goudpoeder en alcohol op de fondant geverfd en ondanks het feit dat ik heel voorzichtig was, is de verf toch uitgelopen. Toch vond en vind ik het een ontzettend schattig taartje. Vooral de parelketting in combinatie met het kooitje.. Zou deze ketting bestaan, werd hij meteen gekocht ;)

Volgende week heeft een andere vriendin een taart besteld en drie keer raden, ook hier zal een parelketting gebruikt worden..
