Diamond Baroque

Again, a three tired cake :)

Made for a couple that celebrates their 60th/diamond aniversay today.
Her daughter asked me to make the cake in black&white and baroque style, because the location is a old castle. She saw a previous black&white cake and liked it very much.  

The lace is real and for the first time I used a mold to make the pearldrapings. Before, I put on suugarpearls, one at a time... Using the mold is so much quicker, thinking why I haven't done that untill today..

Pink blossoms and roses

Last year I've made the "Sophie cake" which I loved so much... A colleaque wanted to order a cake for her daughters sweet 16. She searched for ideas and told me this was the prettiest cake she could find :) Instead of a single cake, she wanted a tree layered cake and cupcakes.
The mother had two preferences regarding the decoration; her daughters name and age on the cake and more pink shades. I was realy looking forward making this cake, as I had so much fun making the original.

The birthday girl just called and told me that she was so happy with it. Now I'm happy too :)

Vorig jaar heb ik de "Sophie taart" gemaakt, waar ik zelf helemaal weg van was.
Een collegaatje wilde graag een taart voor haar dochter die 16 zou worden. Ze had al op internet gezocht naar ideeën, maar kon geen mooiere vinden dan deze vertelde ze :).

In plaats van een enkele taart, wilde ze eentje met drie lagen en een aantal cupcakes. Verder wilde ze graag veel roze en de naam en leeftijd van haar dochter op de taart. Ik zag er enorm naar uit, aangezien ik de originele zo leuk vond om te maken.

Gelukkig was de jarige job ontzettend blij met haar taart en dan maakt mij ook blij :)

Inspiration

A while ago (still "Happy Cupcakes by Nadine")  I photographed my cake books and never placed a topic about it here. So here it is!

Last year I saw a picture of stacked books and it looked so pretty and I wanted to make one too someday. I don't think the picture needs more explanation :) Don't the books make a pretty picture?

Een tijdje geleden heb ik een foto gemaakt van mijn taartboeken (toen nog "Happy Cupcakes by Nadine") en heb er nooit een bericht over geplaatst. Bij dezen dus!

Vorig jaar zag ik een foto van gestapelde boeken en dat zag er zo leuk uit, dat ik dat ook een keer wilde doen. De foto heeft geen verdere uitleg nodig denk ik.. :)

Ziet de stapel er niet mooi uit...? 

London, here we come!

It's almost time for LONDON baby!

My friend Tessa and I are going on a shopping trip to the city in may. Shopping for what?
For cake-stuff :D We saved and saved so we can buy so many things there, such as cake stands (of course...) in different sizes, china in different colours and nice boxes/accessoires.

We've already made a list of shops we wan't to visit and these are our favorites:

* Peggy Porschen; our biggest inspiration,
* Ladurée; I just love those macarons and boxes,
* Zoe Clark; we love her Birdcage Cake,
* Starbucks; I need my London and England city mug ;),
* China & Company; so much china in so many colours! 
* Harrods; looking for china,
* Selfridges; shopping for all kind of things :)

Ivory, peach and gold

Every two months a small group of girlfriends and I meet and go to see a movie or have diner. Since last year on every birthday I've made a mini cake to go with our present. This time is was for Vivian.

The inspiration was a small necklace that has a tiny ivory cup with a goold border and roses in dark peach with grey-green leafs. I really wanted to make a cake using these colours. The base is white fondant with a small amount of ivory.

I just love the result! Hoping she does too.. We'll see tonight..

Iedere twee maanden treffen een paar collega's/vriendinnen en ik ons om naar de film te gaan of om te gaan uit eten. Sinds vorig jaar maak ik voor ieder verjaardagsetentje een mini-taartje voor bij het cadeau. Deze keer is het Vivian's beurt.

De inspiratie was een ketting met een klein kop en schoteltje in ivoor met een gouden randje en perzikkleurige rozen met mosgroene blaadjes. Wilde al een tijdje ontzettend graag een taartje maken in deze kleuren. Bij dezen :)
De basis is witte fondant met een heel klein beetje ivoor.

Ben zelf heel erg blij met het resultaat en Vivian hopelijk ook. We zullen zien vanavond..

Wilton Course 1 Certificat

Last thursday I completed my Wilton Course 1 Decorating Basics and we all got our  certificat. Yeah! It was so much fun and we learned a lot, I'm glad the whole group will continue in Wilton Course 2: Flower and Cake design.

Afgelopen donderdag heb ik mijn Wilton cursus 1 afgerond en de hele groep heeft het certificaat mogen ontvangen. Yes! Het was ontzettend leerzaam en gezellig. Gelukkig gaat, op één na, de hele groep door met de tweede cursus; Flower and Cake design.

Button cake #3

Made for my neighbour who loved my ivory button cake that I made last year.

For a while I wanted to try out my new ivory color on a cake with white decorations. So I decided to make the base ivory and the buttons completely white, painted with pearl dust.
Finished with a ivory pearl border.

Result; simplicity with a vintage edge.

Gemaakt voor mijn buurvrouw. Ze vond mijn ivoorkleurige knopentaartje van vorig jaar zo mooi en wilde graag een knopentaart voor haar verjaardag.

De combinatie van ivoor en wit wilde ik al een tijdje uitproberen. Daarom besloot ik de basis in donker ivoor te maken en de knopen in wit met een wit parelmoeren glansje. Om de bovenkant niet te leeg te laten heb ik het geheel afgemaakt met een parelrand in de kleur van de basis.

Het resultaat: simpel met een tikje vintage.

Victorian charm necklace

My friend wanted a cake for her birthday and because she loves my designs, I was free to do whatever I wanted. That's always nice to hear :)

Last week I've made a petite necklace cake and because I loved it so much, this cake would have one too. Wanting to try out my new cameo mold and some other molds I haven't used yet, the design was there in a second.

Than the choice was between peonies and roses, it became peonies..

At the beginning there was a little doubt about the colour combination, but I'm soooo happy with the result and gladfully she loved it too :)

Birdcage on a necklace

My friend Tessa showed me this stencil (in combination with two lovebirds) and I just needed to have it.. It reminded me of my own vintage birdcages, one in white that I've painted gold and a big one in blue.

A dear friend celebrated her birthday with a high tea, and as always I wanted to make something special and decided to make a vintage-style cake with the birdcage on a pearl necklace with gold tiny bows.

It was my first attempt stencilling something on a cake and it didn't quite go as I wanted it.. I've painted the gold-dust on mixed with alcohol and although I was very carefull, the gold didn't just stay on the spots I wanted it to stay.. In the end, the cake looked very cute to me, I just love love the bow necklace in combination with the cage..... If there would be a real pearlnecklace like this, it would be mine! ;)
Next week another friend will get a cake, and guess what.. There will be a pearl necklace on it too...

Mijn lieve vriendinnetje Tessa liet mij deze stencil zien (in combinatie met twee tortelduifjes op een stok) en ik was meteen verkocht! Het vogelkooitje herinnerde mij aan twee kooitjes die ik heb, een goudkleurige die ik wit gespoten heb en een grotere blauwe.

Mijn vriendin Anouk vierde haar verjaardag met een high tea. Zoals altijd wilde ik iets speciaals maken en besloot een vintage-style cake te maken met het vogelkooitje aan een parelketting met mini-strikjes in goud.
Het was mijn eerste poging met stencils en het ging niet helemaal zoals ik in gedachten had. Het kooitje is met goudpoeder en alcohol op de fondant geverfd en ondanks het feit dat ik heel voorzichtig was, is de verf toch uitgelopen. Toch vond en vind ik het een ontzettend schattig taartje. Vooral de parelketting in combinatie met het kooitje.. Zou deze ketting bestaan, werd hij meteen gekocht ;)

Volgende week heeft een andere vriendin een taart besteld en drie keer raden, ook hier zal een parelketting gebruikt worden..

Wilton Course 1 Decorating Basics, lesson 1

My first official course I'm following. Thinking it would be nice to learn some new technics, I subscribed for the Wilton Decorating Basics Course with my friend Angela. We started two weeks ago on march 4th. Today is our second lesson and I'm looking forward to it.

The group is so nice and the first evening we finished 30 minutes later than we had planned. Well, six women talking about and working with cake is always a good combination ;)

A second time on Jitterbug Weddings...

Hi everybody!

Yesterday I recieved again a message from Nicola from Jitterbug Weddings, this time about my birthdaycake.

She loved the cake & dessert table and would like to write a topic about it, showing only my cakepictures. Couldn't believe what I was reading and I'm sooooo happy with this topic!!

My first dessert table

On the internet I always see so much pretty dessert tables and I realy wanted one at my birthdayparty. I was lucky enough to celebrate it at my little sisters house and she has a lovely wall and even greater dinertable that I could use. The lace tableclouth and decorations on the table are mine :)

The table isn't full of food, but a first I think it makes a little pretty dessert table.

Pink lady

This cake was finished today, a colleaque's husband asked me if I had the time making a cake for a big fan of my cakes hihi. She loves pink and I wanted to use my filigree mold again,
so I combined these things. An hour ago I delivered the cake and she loved it.

Happy faces when the people see their cake makes me happy too :)

Happy Birthday to me ;)

Tonight I'm celebrating my 26th birthday with my friends at my sisters house. I wanted to make a big cake (it's my first all by myself..) in blue&white.. This colour-combination I've loved  for such a long time and I'm sooo happy with the result. Hoping my gasts will love it too.

The fillings are chocolatecake with chocolate fudge cream and vanillacake with cherryfilling.
The bows, baroque-applications and cameo's are made from molds and the sugar pearls are put on by hand (I believe there are about 300 of them...). The lace-border is real :)

Working all week on it and it was a good practice as I have another three-layered cake in a month.

I'm already wondering which colours will be used on my next birthdaycake ;)
