Hi everybody!

It's been a while, but the fall/winter cake season has begun!
Soon I will post some new cakes that I will make in the next couple of weeks.

Before that, I have a question for all my readers.

What do you think of me posting more of my new home on this blog?
In less than three weeks I'm getting my key and at the end of oktober I'm starting moving in. I would love to show you my Shabby Chic home.

Strawberry & Ivory

Hi!

It's been a while since my last post. As you may know, I bought a house and I spend my summer vacation looking for furniture and other stuff.

Today I started a new project and I wanted to show you what I've been up to.
These dummy cakes are made for a interior store as a decoration on their glass cloches.
The owner gave me some decoration strawberries to be used.

I kept it simple, but they still look cute I think.

What do you think of it?

Het is alweer een tijdje geleden dat ik voor het laatst een taartje gepost heb. Zoals je misschien weet heb ik een huis gekocht en mijn zomervakantie besteed aan het zoeken naar meubels en dergelijke.

Vandaag ben ik een nieuw project gestart en het resultaat wilde ik graag laten zien.
Deze piepschuimen taartjes heb ik gemaakt voor een interieur winkel als decoratie onder  glazen stolpen. De eigenaresse gaf me enkele aardbeitjes om te gebruiken.

Ik heb het eenvoudig gehouden, maar vind ze wel erg schattig geworden.

Living the shabby chic style 2

Yesterday I took a roadtrip and visited some nice shops. Found this awesome valve bank 
(is it the right translation??). It's still in grey, but will be painted in white. It's about the same length as the dinnertable (1.80m).  Bought in a great store: D'n Blauwe Pater.



To complete the sitting area in the livingroom, I'm going to buy this chair from Ikea.
I don't think there are many shabby chic interiors that doens't have a Ikea-chair....

It will fit perfectly with my cosy couch and I love the fact that there are loose covers that can be painted :)

Living the shabby chic style

Hi you guys!

I was gone for a while and haven't posted anything since july 20th.. This had a reason, it's because I've bought a house! Yes, I did :D In oktober I will get the key and I can start moving in..

It's my summer vacation (as you maybe know, I'm a teacher) and I'm so glad I have/had 7  weeks looking for furniture and decoration for my new place.
 And I already found so much prettiness for my home....

My style? Here in the Netherlands we call this style "brocante", or the more known "shabby chic, french country" style.

It won't be a surprise that my house will resembles my cakes; pastel colours, lace curtains, antique gold details, Queen Anne furniture and old things.... 
The walls be will all in a broken white, the floor has a old wooden look and most of my furniture will be white and old.

A lot of people will think that all this white resembles a cool, unpersonal and modern interior. Not at all! Because of the old furniture and decoration it will be a homy, calm, lovely and cosy place to live and be in.

A big, big inspiration is the book "Bell Blanc", written by Mirjana Schnepf and Bianca Aurich. They also have a blog: The Essence of Belle Blanc Living.  I also love the book Shabby Chic Interiors by Rachel Ashwell, she also has a blog. 


Below I'll show you some picture of already bought furniture, what do you think of it all?
 

I just fell in love with this closet as I saw it.... The colour is soft and beautiful and fits perfect in my livingroom. This picture is taken in the store, but I will also use it for pretty things to be shown. I bought it at Something Old Something New.

My couch, only mine will have a soft sand/stone colour and it will be bigger, 2.5 metres long... Bought at Elise Chauvel.



For my livingroom, this will be placed in a corner. This also stays in the store, untill I pick it up. Bought at Brocante in Beeg.

A closet for my bedroom, isn't it pretty :) Bought at Tweedehands en Brocante.



My Queen Anne style dinertable, I love it! I'm collecting pretty, white french wooden chairs to go with it, only two more to be found...



For my TV :) Bought at Swiet.

Shades of pastel

This is a cake I've made for a friends birthday. Last year she got a white with dark pink one, one of my first mini cakes. This year I made her a layered cake with some new things.

A while ago I've found these lovely pictures on Flick, they are made by Rhiannon Banda-Scott.
I fell in love with these georgeous combination of pastel colours, the green matches perfect with the white and pastel pink on that pretty wooden floor.


So it got a place on my endless to-do-and-inspiration-list. The lace mold is a first, so are the ruffles, they match perfectly.

For the base I've used white fondant with a tiny amount ivory, just to break it a bit.
The green was made with avocado and for the pink, I've mixed pink and peach.
For the gold I've used several colours, untill it was the antique gold I've wanted.

This cake is not so simple, like many others.. I have crossed my borders for this one, but I'm very pleased with it. And so did my friend :)

Congratulations Ilona!

Dit taartje heb ik voor een vriendin gemaakt, ze was maandag jarig. Vorig jaar heeft ze een wit met felroze taartje gekregen en dit jaar heb ik haar een 2-laags taartje gemaakt met enkele "uitprobeersels".

Een tijdje geleden vond ik deze geweldige foto's op Flickr, ze zijn gemaakt door Rhiannon Banda-Scott. Het was liefde op het eerste gezicht, deze prachtige combinatie van pastel kleuren. Het groen past perfect bij het wit en pastel roze op die mooie houten vloer.

Dus kregen ze een plekje op mijn te-doen-lijstje. De kant-mal heb ik voor het eerst gebruikt en past er perfect bij, net als de roezels. Die ik ook voor het eerst gemaakt heb.
Voor de basis heb ik witte fondant met een ietsiebietsie ivoor, om het wat te breken.

Het groen heb ik gemaakt met de kleur avocado. En voor het roze, heb ik pink en peach gemengd. Om dit goud te krijgen, heb ik enkele goudpoeders gemengd, tot ik de kleur kreeg die ik wilde.

Dit taartje is niet zo eenvoudig, zoals vele anderen... Ik heb toch wel mijn grenzen verlegd voor deze. Maar ben er erg blij mee en mijn vriendin ook :)

Victorian wedding cupcakes with a vintage twist

Yesterday was a BIG BIG day, my friend Eva got married! And I had the honor to be her witness. The day started out with some clouds, we had some rain but not at the important times.

Eva was a georgous bride! I was there the whole time as the pictures were taken in the gardens of the location. It was so much fun, I even had the chance to be de photographer's assistent. My job was to make sure the train of the dress layed perfect and her hair was out of her eyes.

Can't wait to see the pictures...

Months ago she asked me to make 80 wedding cupcakes as dessert, she liked the combination of white, ivory and peach with gold details.

The cupcakes were a succes and Eva loved them.

It was such a beautiful day, I wish you guys all the luck and hapiness! XO 

Gisteren was de GROTE dag, mijn vriendin Eva ging trouwen! En ik had de eer om haar getuige te zijn. De dag begon met wolken en we hadden wat regen, maar gelukkig niet tijdens de momenten dat we buiten waren.

Eva was een prachtige bruid! Ik mocht er bij zijn toen de foto's van het bruidspaar gemaakt werden in de tuinen van Mondo Verde. Wat was dat leuk zeg! Ik mocht zelfs de fotograaf "assisteren", mijn taak was ervoor te zorgen dat sleep mooi lag en Eva's haren niet voor haar ogen hingen. Ben heel benieuwd naar de foto's!

Maanden geleden vroeg Eva mij of ik 80 cupcakes wilde maken, die na het eten geserveerd zouden worden. Ze vond de combinatie van wit, ivoor en perzik met gouden details erg leuk. De cupcakes waren gelukkig een succes en Eva was er erg blij mee.

Het was een geweldige dag en ik wens jullie alle geluk toe!! X

Simplicity in grey

Made for my uncle, he's retiring tomorrow. He was a teacher for over 40 years and my aunt wanted a small cake to celebrate.

Making a grey cake was on my to-do-list and as it is a cake for a man, I wanted to keep it simple. My aunt liked the idea of grey with a white flower.

Gemaakt voor mijn oom die morgen, na 43 dienstjaren in het onderwijs, met pensioen gaat. Dit moet natuurlijk gevierd worden en daarom wilde mijn tante een taart.

Een grijze taart stond nog op mijn to-do-lijstje en aangezien het een taart voor een man is, wilde ik het eenvoudig houden met een open witte bloem. Dit leek mijn tante ook leuk.

It's a Girl!

My friend Thera and her husband are expecting a baby girl. Last night was the surprise babyshower her husband organised, he asked me to make some cupcakes.

Since it will be a girl and I love pink, the cupcakes had to be in pink..  The combination of pink, off-white and gold is one of my favorites.. I didn't use any baby-decoration, but the ruffles and little necklace do refer to the baby and it's the mothers party tonight :) 

Here they are. She was very surprised and loved them, mission completed!

Mijn vriendin Thera en haar man zijn in verwachting van een meisje. Gisteren was de babyshower, die haar man als verrassing had georganiseerd. Hij had mij gevraagd cupcakes te maken en aangezien het een meisje wordt en ik van roze houd, moesten de cupcakes wel roze worden... De combinatie van roze, ivoorwit en goud is een van mijn favorieten. Ik heb geen baby-decoratie gebruikt, maar de ruches en kleine parelketting verwijzen er wel naar en het is tenslotte een feestje voor mama :)

Hier zijn ze dan. Thera was erg verrast en vond ze geweldig, dus missie volbracht!

Vintage romance

In May I visited London with my friend Tessa. We both fell in love with this 30's style, georgous mint-green china from Royal Albert. I just had to wait a little while before I could make a cake to go with this cup, saucer and dessertplate.

The rose is a second try with petals on thread. The inside petals of the rose are glued on, the other two layers are on threa. I tried to use the same colours as the china, I just love these soft tones combined with gold.

It's a gift for my friend, she completed her study and is celebrating tonight.

Afgelopen mei hebben mijn vriendinnetje Tessa en ik London bezocht. We waren beide meteen verliefd op dit jaren '30, mint-groene servies van Royal Albert.
Moest alleen een tijdje wachten voordat ik een bijpassend taartje kon maken.

De roos is een tweede poging met blaadjes op draad. The binnenste blaadjes zijn vastgelijmd en de buitenste twee lagen op draad. Ik heb geprobeerd de kleuren van het servies na te bootsen, vind de zachte kleuren in combinatie met het goud zo mooi...

Het is een cadeautje voor een vriendin, die vanavond viert dat ze haar diploma behaald heeft.

La Dentelle et le Ruban

Who doesn't love the romance and vintage touch of lace and silkyness and grace of satin ribbons.... 

Well, I adore both of them! There are only few cakes I've made, that weren't combined with both or just one of them.

On my shelf, two big glass jars protect my pretty treasures....

Ik adoreer beide! Er zijn maar enkele taarten die ik niet gecombineerd heb met beide of alleen een van beide.

Twee grote weckpotten herbergen mijn lieflijke schatten....

Made for a colleaque who's son is turning 1 tomorrow. Last year I've made the birth cupcakes and this year she wanted a Cookie monster cake, Thijmen loves him. So I did.

Although it's not my style, I think I succeeded with this fluffy monster with a touch of Nadine ;)

But, it's a one time only design....

Gemaakt voor mijn collegaatje Sonja, wiens zoontje morgen 1 wordt. Vorig jaar heb ik de geboorte-cupcakes gemaakt en dit jaar wilde ze graag een Cookie Monster-taart, aangezien dit de favoriet van Thijmen is. Zo gezegd, zo gedaan.

Ondanks het feit dat dit niet mijn gewoonlijke stijl is, denk ik dat het een geslaagde Cookie Monster-taart is met een tikje Nadine ;)

Het is een eenmalig ontwerp en het volgende ontwerp staat al in mijn schetsboek, maar nu in verschillende tinten pastelblauw met strepen....

I get more and more questions about how I get that tight curve at the top of my cakes.

Her's my secret...
For a while I've using this awesome smoother from Edgers. It's a bit odd at the beginning, but it does the work very well! Use it with a small amount of cornflower, so it glides better on the edges of the cake.

Ik krijg steeds meer vragen over mijn strakke taartranden, dus hierbij mijn geheim....

Sinds een tijdje gebruik ik een super hoeksmoother van Edgers. In het begin even raar werken, maar hij doet wat hij belooft :)

Gebruikmakend van een klein beetje maïzena, glijdt hij makkelijk over de randen en zorgt hij voor die strakke rand.

Étincellement avec Bleu et Blanc

I do love blue and white together... and the occasional glitter works great :)

My colleaque Hendrik and his wife are gifted with a baby named David.
Hendrik asked me to make a cake for the visitors. His wife doesn't know...

He liked the idea of blue and white, simplicity and elegance with glitter letters reveiling the name of their son.
So I came up with this idea. Stripes are one of my favorites, and letting them continue on the middle cake turned out quite pretty I think :) Of course my all time favorite pearls finish the border.

The letters are a first and I LOVE them with those baby blue glitters (already bought disco baby pink...)! This definitly will not be the last baby cake with glitter letters!

The flower was my number two, the first one smashed on the ground.... But, I already decided to only use one flower on the top. Lucky me :)

He just picked up the cake and was so happy with it, that's always the best part!

Alan Dunn

Finally it was time for a Alan Dunn workshop with Tessa at Ellens Creative Cakes.
We were going to make a old fashioned rose, and we both do love roses...

The original workshop was on friday, but Tessa and I could do it on Saturday :) It was so great that he took the time for us! He also had another workshop that day.

We have learned so much! And oh my, we had no idea that one small rose could take so much time! It took us about 7 hours! But, the results are lovely.

We've made the roses of cold porselain instead of sugarpaste because it will be less fragile..

It was so much fun, Alan is a realy nice guy!
